Lets see...Since asphalt and tar are black and thats what roads are made out of, then thats why they are black. I guess if they were any other color then they would look very dirty from everyones tire marks or mud/dirt that collects on the tires.

In many parts of the world roads are also made of cement concrete and they could be light grey to almost white.

Also in nort America and many other parts of the world there are also few months of the cold weather when the roads get covered with snow - that is alomost always a beautiful white until it melts down to create a dirty slush.

So its not always doom and gloom. So if you can find sometime to spend away from the roads in countryside, in parks, or near lakes and seashore you can experience wonderful change. Some kids parks can have those colourful road colour variations for different kinds of traffic maybe etc.

The roads are not always black.

In Mumbai many roads are cemented so they are not black.
In Europe also many roads are cobbled and cemented , so they are not black.

The roads are of neutral colour.
If the roads were yellow or blue or another colour, then the cars and vehicles on the road will merge with the colour of the road and not be seen properly. This will lead to many accidents.
Please dont be bored by the same colour of the roads, there is a definite purpose in this colour.

Two reasons.

1> Tar is black. So road has to be black. Cemented roads however, are not black.

2> Colourful roads would cause accidents as a person would not be able to concentrate on driving due to those flashy roads.

Would you really drive on a YELLOW ROAD, and can't even tell the RAILROAD sign right next to you, or the yellow lanes?. SIGNS are supposed to be in colors, and the ROAD all black, so it can be seen clearly, and the signs can also be seen clearly.

By the way, where I grew up the roads were "white". dirt roads. Nothing but white dusty.

People in USA have their driveways to the house in different colour. It is very easy with concrete drive ways just add colour die to the mix not that expensive.

Private side walks have engraving in them too. In Hawaii they just use large leave from the trees as stamping when the concrete is still wet. Some use rubber stamping of the God and Goddess.

Asphalt can also comes in various colour.

bitumen is a naturally occuring substance in nature; a bi-product of oil leaching into earth strata. it is rare, so we synthesize it from petroleum.it is black because it is actually a type of coal-tar. it is gooey, sticky, and ground particular aggregates are added to bitumen to provide solidity and adhesion to the road surface. there are roads of different colors. portland cement can be a road material, mixed with different materials, notably, iron oxide (reddish), and other metals may have a distinct color. a finely ground substance may produce a traction as well as different textures and colors..

the only place for a purple or yellow road would be in Disneyland or San Fransico

to waste money to paint tar and concrete a color is beyond stupid

most highyways in places that get freezing weather are concrete or grey

for what?
i think you are the only one that has a problem with black roads. i've never even heard anyone else mention that the roads were black in the frist place.
plus, i wouldn't want to pay more money for colored roads. they are fine the way they are as far as i'm concerned.

lol.. if you were to get roads to be a different color then you would have to find some sort of magical coal or whatever it is they use in a different color.. they use black cuz if they wanted to change the color then it would cost more money.. if youre willing to pay for that then go ahead
