. Seek out a local manicurist for professional advice and at home techniques.

. Invest in a few tools: nail polish and remover, base and top coat, nail and cuticle moisturizer, nail files, and cotton balls. Then, once a week, give your nails "the treatment." When your nails begin to look longer, you're bound to feel better about yourself and about showing off your hands!

put something horrible tasting on the ends. That should help. I think there may actually be something made for this, look in a sort of speciality store where they have all kinds of nail polish things. I had the same problem when I was younger and managed to break the habit. Now my nails are usually too long. Keep at it, it's worth it to have hands that look so much better.

I found that when my nails get too long where the nail meets the finger, it really irritates my skin. As long as I keep my nails well trimmed at that point, I don't want to bite them.

The weird thing is, I'm not usually conscious that it is bothering me; I just start chewing on the nail to get it away from the skin it is irritating. Then, of course, the nail is jagged and uneven, and I keep biting trying to get it even.

If you can figure out what triggers you starting to bite your nails, it's a lot easier not to bite them at all.

I was once told the best way to stop biting your nails was to concentrate on something else when you get the urge to bite or you catch yourself in the act. For example, grab an apple or something crunchy you like and take bitty pieces of it (not huge bites). Basically, divert your attention from biting nails to something else. It works for me :)
Just try not to pick something that is not good/healthy for you.

well, pure determination has a lot to do with it, but what i did was put some really hot sauce under my nails and put some on after i washed my hands or anything, and then i just sort of stopped biting them. good luck, it just takes will power. also carry around a nail file and clippers with you so you can mess with those instead of biting them

You could try putting something on your nails that doesn't taste good, like dried hot pepper juice.
