Some time back I heard that 16 yrs of education is mandatory to gain admission in a post-grad program in the US. It seems the rules have changed recently. Does anyone know them? And would GMAT be the right exam to take?

I have done my BA from Delhi University and have been working for about six months now.

Major - Philosophy
GPA - 2.5

Graduate programs (post-BA) in the US often accept students from India, if they are competitive candidates.

16 years of education is the norm in the US, but graduate schools realize that this is not necessarily the case in other countries. Graduate schools therefore expect applicants to have the equivalent of a BA in the US.

If you are seeking a Masters or PhD in philosophy, the GMAT is not the correct exam. The GRE is the exam for you to take.

However, most graduate programs at US universities require a minimum GPA of 3.0, or in some cases, a 3.5.

Because of this, I strongly advise you to contact administrators in the Graduate Schools of the universities to which you wish to apply. This can be done via email. These administrators have a great deal of experience with international applicants, and can advise you much better than I can, as they can provide you with information specific to their own universities' policies. For instance, grading scales do vary from country to country. I have no idea about grading scales in India, but the administrators do. They also know which schools in India have strong programs, and produce competitive graduate school applicants, and which do not.

Best wishes to you.
