Could someone explain this to me well and in about a paragraph each? Thus, I've actually got two questions for you....

1. Why was it important that Madison kept notes on the Constitutional Convention?
2. What did John Quincy Adams mean when he said that the United States owed its existence to Madison's mind?

I'm not doing your homework for you, but I'll give you a start. Between James Madison, Thomas Jefferson, and John Adams, they came up with the proper wordings for the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Madison kept detailed notes for reference of best, good, usable, and bad ideas for consideration of or not to be put in the Constitution.

I am not too sure about #1,
May be it helped the discussion because people could not shift the ground any more.
As to #2 - I can confirm this statement .
I studied that time well.
Some people prefer to live in independent and sovereign states, other wanted association between similar states (slavery - non slavery). Just few men - Madison and some others
(like Hamilton) campaigning for the union of all states.
Finally their view prevail.
And Madison was the greater contributor for that.
