is it disrespectful to give a standing OVATION in a studio??

PLEASE someone, anyone, everyone resolve this arguement.Is it disrespectful and/or a new law that you cannot stand up in a studio like the(Letterman show) to give a standing OVATION>> I never heard that this is true and I do not believe it if it's so, Can you please resolve this disagreement among me and a very close friend?
