your brain does use up calories, practically every organ and tissue in your body does. the brain also happens to prefer glucose as its primary source of fuel. however, eating more candy isn't going to enhance your intelligence in the slightest bit.

No, that's not true. If it were, what does that tell you about diabetics? I have diabetes and don't eat sugar. Does that mean that I'm smarter than most people? Well, I'll say no, even if it is true. That's completely unrelated to sugar.
You need to understand first, what a calorie is. A calorie is a unit of heat. A food that contains calories means that it takes energy to digest it - the best way to measure the amount of energy is by the heat it produces - measured in calories.
Too much sugar is poison for the body. If a person were really smart, he or she would know that and would not eat more to get smarter. If that were true, everybody would be dead.

Every living part of your body consumes calories in order to stay alive. Since your brain is one of the most active organs in your body, it consumes a large number of calories every day to fuel its basic functions. This can be shown in various brain imaging studies, particularly PET scans, which show images of the acutal functioning (not just the structure) of a working brain. When one part of the brain is activated, more blood flows to and from it, more oxygen is burned, and more glucose (the primary caloric fuel source used all over the body) is used in that part of the brain. So, yes, your brain burns calories. There is no logic in assuming that eating large numbers of calories (from any source) will make you more intelligent. Like any other part of your body, your brain will consume only those calories it needs to do the jobs demanded of it. The same goes for your heart, lungs, liver, GI tract, muscles, nerves, kidneys, etc. Any additional calories we take in beyond those needed for our organs and tissues to be adequately fueled, AND those we burn by any form of physical activity and/or exercise, will usually be turned to fat or to a substance called glycogen (an "emergency" fuel supply stored in the liver). So, no, eating excessive sweets or other forms of calories won't make you smarter. In fact, it's pretty dumb! Being overweight, even to a moderate level, is associated with a higher risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, clots, and shorter life span. That doesn't sound very smart to me. Also, all those clogged arteries will reduce blood flow to your brain, and can actually cause death of brain cells, which would NOT be likely to make anyone more intelligent.
