There's a good chance that they will, but they have to face many challenges. Teams like Phoenix Suns, Detroit Pistons, San Antonio Spurs, and possible MIami Heat(if there team gets healthy). I pick the suns to win it all because i believe offense wins the game.

That would be NO!!!

Their best chance was last year.
San Antonio is gunna turn the table on them and remember, Spurs won their Championships in odd numbered years ( 99, 03, 05 ), it's 2007...coincidence??? Lakers got in the way 00, 01, 02,04 eliminating them practically every single time. Some say that the spurs/mavs is the best basketball rivalry today but spurs/lakers are the only west teams to win the title 6 of the last 8 years (pistons/heat the other two). If not were talking modern day dynasty such as 80 lakers and 90 bulls.

The Mavericks and Suns are torching everyone and the Spurs are kinda flying under the radar. Even though it looks like they'll end up with the 3 seed, homecourt should'nt really matter because of the talent on both teams "toss-up" (see mavs over spurs in game 7 at S.A. last year).

The Mavericks were just the hot team at the right time and if not for that phantom foul call on "Dirk" by Ginobili, we would be answering if the spurs are gunna repeat and if the mavs can finally get over the hump. The Spurs are looking like that team this year that will enter the playoffs red hot and do some damage.

Size up that ring...Go Spurs Go!

Dallas will win the Title as long as it's core group stays healthy. The Spurs have the best shot at upsetting Dallas, but they are an older team now and the first round will tire them out for Dallas. The Suns can't beat any of the elite teams in the West so it's hard to see them advancing to the NBA finals. And the East has...well there you go, nobody. Detroit will probably be the team coming from the East, but they mave too many match up problems against Dallas. Dallas used to be known as a team that choked it up, because they soley relied on Dirk, now with Howard, Stackhouse, Devon George, Devon Harris and Jason Terry they don't rely on Dirk as much. Dallas will win it all!

Yes.This is the year for the Mavs. They have the best team in the NBA and their record is proof. The only teams that even stand a chance against them are the Suns and Spurs. But the Suns don't exactly play defense. They just go out there and try to outscore everyone. The Spurs i think are a better match up against the Mavs, but even then I think Dallas is too strong. With Dirk as the MVP, the Dallas Mavericks will win this years championship.

All of you guys are stupid. It will be down to Dallas Mavericks vs. Detroit Pistons in the NBA Finals. And Pistons are more likely to win. Did any of you manage to see their game on TNT in mid December when the Pistons Beat the Mavericks by 92-82 at the Mavericks home. Besides, the Pistons have experience in winning the title. Escpicially now that they have Chris Webber. HELL NO, THE MAVS AINT WINNING!

No doubt this is the Mavs year. They have strung together numerous winning streaks this year after a poor 0-4 start. With a year under his belt, Avery is a better coach. Dirk is having an MVP like performance. The pieces are in place with Josh Howard stepping up his game, as has Terry and Stackhouse. They have the best conference record, division record, and an absurdly unbeatable home record. And of course they have the best record in the league. They will steamroll through the Spurs and Suns in the Western Conference playoffs and straight up take the East opponent to school regardless of who it is.

I am so tired of all these people saying Dirk "chokes" at the end of big games. You obviously have absolutely NO IDEA what you are talking about. I don't know, maybe you missed the Mavs playoff run last year........ sure, Dirk struggled somewhat for the first time against Miami's Udonis Haslem and James Posey, but he led that team to the Finals for the first time in its history. Now, this year, almost everyone with the Mavs has a Finals experience under their belts, plus last year's coach of the year, Avery Johnson. After losing four games in a row to Miami in last year's Finals (one by 1 pt, one by 2 pts, and one by 3 pts), the Mavs are THAT MUCH HUNGRIER for a title this year. This team can run you to death, slow it up, play big, play small, and most importantly, play stifling defense ( top 4 in the league). With Avery's amazing coaching, Dirk's continued leadership and MVP play, the emergence of first time ALL-STAR Josh Howard, and the energy and production of guys like Devin Harris, Devean George, Greg Buckner, Erick Dampier, DeSagana Diop, Jerry Stackhouse, Austin Croshere, Maurice Ager, DJ Mbenga, Pops-Mensah Bonsu, and JJ Barea, the Mavs' team chemistry is spectacular, and they continue to improve every day. The Dallas Mavericks, driven by desire and passion, look to make another deep playoff run, one hopefully ending in an NBA CHAMPIONSHIP.

And as for that "phantom call" on Ginobili, I think not. I have a snapshot of the play on my desktop, with Manu's hand GRIPPING Dirk's left arm. Try taking another look.

yes. they will win it. dallas is probably the only team that can go with a fast paced short line up and a big man line up. The only team I see that dallas might have trouble with is houston, but dallas has multiple big men to throw at yao, and josh howard can guard tmac. Phoenix does not have an answer for dirk and josh howard. steve nash will guard harris, raja on jason terry, shawn marion on josh howard, boris diaw on dirk, amare on diop/dampier. plus dallas has the deepest team in the league, but they should have held on to anthony johnson, a guy who could really solidify their bench.

detroit will not be much of a challenge, and miami will probably not make it due to wades injury.

2nd round: Dallas, San Antonio, Phoenix, Houston
Western Conference Finals: Dallas, Phoenix
finals dallas

Barring any significant injuries, I think Dallas will be the most difficult team to defend against and score on, which might mean they will defeat everyone else and win a championship. If you're a fan, keep your fingers crossed that they keep playing tough defense and don't get injured.

they are the best team in basketball right now, but this team has a history of self-destruction in the playoffs, and the core group of players from those teams is still there...so i think the suns have the best chance, but if they stumble, it's hard to see how dallas doesn't at least win the western conference
