First of all, the only great lake that is in the states is Lake Michigan, the rest are in Canada. For the lakes, remember the first two letters and it makes kind of a weird name:
HU, SU, ER, MI, ON (say it fast)(Huron, Superior, Erie, Michigan and Ontario)
For the planets: My Very Eager Mother Jackie Sits Under Nose Pickers (i know its stupid but it worked for me and its in order)
just use the first initial from each word to remember the planet, Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto (which doesn't really count anymore)
