I'm a woman, but I wanted to point out that some companies actually let men take a leave of absense after having a child as well as women.

Companies are required by law to give both men and women a leave of at least 12 weeks after the birth of a new baby. Unfortunately, this is usually an unpaid leave. If companies are smart, they'll be generous and supportive of the new parents-- treating them poorly is going to lower their productivity and their loyalty. Even if they take a loss at first, they'll see it pay off in the long run.

I'm an American man and I think it only makes sense that a woman who has just given birth should take some time off. Having a child is a major life change and she went through serious physical and chemical changes during her pregnancy. She went through Labor and birthed a child! That's not easy, from what I've heard. Any company that won't allow a leave of absence for child-birth probably won't let you take bereavement if your parents die. That company is just plain wrong and should have all their good people leave them.

I think it puts companies in a bad position because there is work that has to be done, kid or not.

But I don't particularly care for children, so even I know my views are one-sided
