Ok...so I'm not sure what it is for sure...but I have this spot on my back/shoulder in the muscle where I think I carry all my stress. I have my boyfriend massage it once in a while and he can feel (and I can feel and hear) this little "chunk" moving. It's not a knot like normal muscle knots either. When I'm super stressed I can feel it throbbing and it hurts like crazy. When he massages it, it hurts at first, then lessens up and kinda goes away. But then it's back less than an hour later. I've heard that it could be creatine or keratin (don't remember which one they said) build up. Or that it could be a cyst near a nerve. What do you think??? I'm in nursing school (but I've never heard of this yet) and my life is going to be really stressful for the next 3 and a half years. What can I do to get this to go away??? I can't handle much more of this! Please help!!!

I just had a week from hell in nursing school too. 4 exams, 1 quiz, and a critique due. My mom and I are getting a massage lady to come to the house to give us hour long massages. I'll see what she thinks about it. But I also wanted input from non-massage people out there.

Well, if it's a cyst, you better have it checked before it becomes really irritated and starts to cause serious problems. These little "bumps" or "knots" are usually nothing, but it never hurts to have them checked out.

It could also be a nesting alien life form that was deposited there while you were sleeping. (I just lost all credibility, didn't I?)

You should visit a chiropractor and also get some deep tissue massages..that should help. I have the same problem at times and I find that these help me most. A medical doctor could prescribe some muscle relaxers but I think you should try natural healing first and see if that helps. Make sure the chiropractor you see uses electric stimulation. That feels wonderful and seems to help relax that muscle. Hope you get better!

Sounds like you need to see a massage therapist and get this area worked on. I have this on the left side of my back near my shoulders/neck and massage therapy helps a lot but my personal massage therapist no longer works at the nursing home I work at soooooooooooo I haven't had it worked on for a long time.
