Whether or not you get stretch marks, and how severe the stretch marks are, is largely due to genetics and skin elasticity. You can't prevent yourself from developing them if you're genetically predisposed to them; you can mitigate their severity, but once you start getting them the most you can hope for is that they'll fade quickly once you have your baby. Moisturizers can help limit the number of stretch marks you get, but if you're getting them at 4 weeks of pregnancy then your skin's elasticity is pretty stretched already. Go with a heavier cream, like Palmer's Cocoa Butter and hope for the best.

well, when I was attending a beauty school they told me the best thing to use (even though it can be expensive) is Emu oil. Rub it on after a shower. Every morning and night, every day. And you will notice that scars and stretch marks will actually start to go away. Longer term use though. It's not a quick fix. But it is proven to regenerate skin cells that have been damaged. try it you'll see. Another good trick for skin and hair beauty is after you take a hot shower, right before you step out splash yourself with cold water for 20-30 sec. and then blot dry w/ a towel. this will close your pores and trap the moisture in both your skin and hair, leaving shiny hair and radiant skin :) Good luck.

ok unlike the b-i-t-c-h that answered first.... you could use palmers products, palmers is the brand they might be the most popular, im not going to say it works like a charm, but i think it did help prevent. i got a road map going on my belly now about 39 weeks. and i tried using the lotions, but i stopped because the stretch marks wouldnt stop, i just figured, hell they are gonna be there forever whats a few more, ill work on a better solution after, but alot of woman just get them and some dont, theres no stopping it. good luck with the little one

don't listen to people who are just telling you to keep your legs closed they are full of crap!!! now on to the stretch mark situation, there is NOTHING that you can do to prevent them, i put that crappy butter crap on every day for 9 months and my stomach looks like a road map! no joking either, you are either born to get them or you aren't. they are not preventable, you inherit them. because i asked my doctor why i had them and i told him that i put that lotion on everyday religiously for the entire pregnancy and he flat out told me that i was just meant to have them, there is NOTHING that you can to do prevent them, they are hereditary, so you might as well stop applying the lotion because it won't help, not trying to make you even more depressed honey but there really is no way to keep them from coming, if you already have a lot you probably won't get hardly anymore they will just grow, the ones you already have right now, they will get longer and possibly deeper, tanning doesn't help so don't do it all it does is make them a silvery color which if you are one of those people who can where shirts that show your stomach, they will be EXTREMELY visible in the sun or if a light hits it the wrong way. sorry for the misfortune but at least you will have something wonderful to show for it for the rest of your life!!! congrats on the baby by the way, holly

Increase the intake of foods containing Vitamin A, E and C like carrots, papayas, tomatoes . Also food rich in essential fatty acids like fish oils will help in growth of skin cells. You can find more cheap and natural remedies for stretch marks at the link below.

Use vitamin E it helps a lot. You have to apply it daily a few times without forgetting. And it doesn't do 100% cause stretch marks in pregnancy are sadly a reality. But try your best.

Elastin 3. I haven't tried it so I can't say for sure that it works, but it's an option anyway. I've heard of some people trying it before/during pregnancy and they barely have any signs of stretch marks.

Sorry, but they are permanent.
All you can do is not gain more than your doctor advises.
Stretch marks are like a map of life experiences...that is what my new hubby (2nd marriage for each) told me....
He said "don't be ashamed---they helped make you into the you I love."
I hope your man is that loving!, too
