Natural curiosity has made me wonder, which end of the tornado is more deadly, the end nearer the ground or the end nearer the sky?

the simple answer is the end near the ground because its actually in contact with things it could do damage with. that being said portable doppler radar has found tornadic winds are more powerful a few hundred feet up so in theory that would be more destructive

Actually, it's the debris that is being thrown from the tornado that causes the most amount of damage. The base of a tornado poses the greater threat.

I think most damage from a tornado is caused, not by the winds themselves, but be what they are moving and throwing around. That would make ground level the most dangerous.

The end nearer the ground - in addition to wind, there's also all sorts of dust, debris, and chickens. Always chickens...
