hip hop came around in the late 70's early 80's and yeah it is music some of the most thought provoking music if you hear the right people

Not exactly sure about hip hop music, but I do know that rap has been around since at least the mid to late 70's. And, if I had to guess at it, I would say that hip hop is a cast off of rap. Right?
