check ur CPU backend of there's two phone line jack. if no then ur PC is not come with a modem, u have to buy a dial-up modem (internal or external) and get it installed in ur PC so tat u can dial to the Internet.

if there are phone line jack in PC, then ur modem is having some problem and cannot be detected by windows. open ur CPU try to unplug and reinsert da modem and see if it can be detected

I suspect someone may have removed the operating software for your modem.

Remove the sideplate from the Dell. Take a look in the actual modem slots. Those are a small plug in circuit board about 2 inches by 4 inches long The modem will be labeled accordingly as to Manufacturer and model #. Write that down. Then take that info to a friends house and go to the manufacturer's website and on there you will find the proper operating software as a free download Save it to desktop, Burn a CD and then install that into your computer, It will have everything needed for that modem to operate.

If you dont want to monkey with that just go to any computer store and buy a modem for around $20 that will come with a CD software disc.

You may have a modem installed, it's just not installed on the PC's System Configuration.. Download this tool, run it, and it will tell you if a modem is there.. It's called SIW, it's safe, plus you can retrieve the Windows Key for the Operating System, it tells you what the memory is, the monitor, motherboard, everything, if a modem is present on the list go to the second link, and register for the free account and search with the modems name in the search bar and download the driver/s for the modem and install...
Good Luck

How do you plan to connect? DSL or Cable do not require a modem. You do need a NIC card, however.
Going with a dial-up? - You need a modem.

You need to buy an internal or external modem, but also need a phone line. If you have cable, you might be able to get a cable modem.

You should be able to go to a down load place like windows updates and download what you need. Otherwise you can ask you isp service and they can lead you to where you need to go.
