I quit 5 years ago and what seemed logical to me was to smoke a cigar once in a while if the cravings got really bad. That way I would not inhale (too strong), but I'd get the whole general smoking experience. That worked well. At first I had a couple a month, now I hardly ever even want a cigar, maybe a few a year (they are nasty). For me, there are no more cravings, it's just mental, mostly. I think the physical addiction is out of your system in a few days actually.

I don't crave them very often any more. I do think about them maybe once every couple of weeks or so. But, the cool thing is, as soon as I think about something else, the thought of smoking is gone for another couple weeks.

If it never gets any better than this, I can still handle it.

I smoked heavily (2 to 2 1/2 packs per day) for 42 years. Have now been quit for over 5 years,

Well I have a friend that quit 12 years ago and he tells me that he still craves a smoke at certain times....but I don't know about "forever"....I assume you stop craving when you die...

No, it is not true. I smoked between two and a half and three packs a day for twenty-two years and then quit seventeen years ago. I have had no urges for cigarettes for sixteen years and ten months.
