you must have your itunes set to sync automatically with your library which would erase when your library gets erased. when you have your ipod plugged in and you're in itunes, try going to edit and preferences and select manual transfer

ok when u connect ur ipod to ur pc , the ipod window pops up... click on music and check the box that says automatically update all songs! that ways everytime u add new songs to the ipod the old ones wont get erased and jus the new additions will upload on ur ipod ! and if ever u wanna erase some songs u can jus delete em from ur itunes library and ipod updates automatically everytime u connect it to ur pc !and secondly if u wanna copy songs from ur friend's ipod to urs you need to get a software that allows u to copy songs from another ipod onto ur itunes !

You have it selected to syncronize with your iTunes music folder, which you appearently keep empty.

As well: you cannot use the iPod to copy music from (at least not easily). You have to select it to be used as a hard disc (in the options menu, select "do not syncronize with my iTunes music folder" to turn it into a portable hhd) and physically move the media onto the hard disc (in a new folder).

you have your ipod synced with itunes, bad idea. Whatever itunes senses that there is osmething on your ipod that isn't on your itunes, it will delete it. So to share music, the only realy way is to burn it on a cd and then rip it into your itunes.

when you copy music like the itunes between ipods, i believe it sends a 'DESTROY' signal. it wipes out everyhing. I think it's a security measure to protect music artist's rights.
