Can someone who was born without fingers, toes, etc. grow some? Can people learn to see again after going totally blind with Retinitis Pigmentosa?

Apparently, scientists have come to the conclusion that we could regrow ALL missing parts, toes, hands, legs, teeth, etc...if we could only find out WHY the regrowth gene in humans is TURNED OFF.

They have identified the gene that causes regrowth in reptiles. Now they are trying to figure out just how to regulate that same gene in humans, so we could regrow anything that is lost through accident or disease.

Growing Limbs: No. That's where the whole stem cell debate comes in; with that kind of research, we would be able to.
Curing Blindness: We're getting there, but I don't think it's anything more than an experimental procedure at the moment.

The vision thing. . . I not sure of. Yet, the losing of ( or being born without ) an arm, toe, finger, etc. . . don't think a person can just ' grow ' one of those. We aren't lizards. When a lizard loses it's tail...another grows back as I think that is their sort of defense mechanism of escaping from their enemy...Their tail gets caught...they escape...another tail grows back. Us as humans don't have a need for that ' defense / escape ' situation. So...no, our ' limbs ' would not grow back.

Not sure on this . . . yet, that's my thought.

Good QUESTION though...glad to see you asked it.

As far as I know, no one has been able to reproduce any arms and so one, human anyway. As far as someone who was blind being able to see again, there have been cases where people have regained their sight with medical treatment, some long lasting some was only temporary.

-----We have the potential to grow a new arm, lower animals do, but our bodies have lost that ability. Some day the doctors will know how to make the body grow a new arm. ---Jim

no you cant grow them back because scientists or doctors havent found a cure or way to make it happen, besides putting a fake arm or whatever bodypart that is cut off.
