Just wondering. I want to be a vet when i grow up and i want to do some volunteer work not for money but for experience, not like id get money out of volunteer work anyway. So does fostering animals for the local animal shelter count as experience?

I would definitely say yes, because you were taking care of an animal not your own (on my application, it said it was experience). Be sure to put a contact for the animal shelter you fostered for.

Anything you do as a volunteer with animals is invaluable experience.Any experience you have with animals can be put on your resume. It will be a great benefit for you in your career as a veterinarian.

Enjoy your experience working with animals. I have done a lot of volunteer work at the local shelter and found it very fulfilling. What the animals give back in return, money can't buy. They need people like you. Good luck in your future career.

Yes it does and it would also look very nice on your resume as well. Being a foster parent is such a nice way to help animals, it will give you a lot of experience too. Good luck with your future plans, you picked out a great field to work in.

Absolutely. I have been fostering for about 15 years. It has been a really top notch experience to learn breeds, their characteristics, emotional makeup, etc. For example: There are definite behaviors of herding dogs, or lap dogs, or protection dogs. A lot of the dogs we get are abandoned, or abused. It is a real plus when we get one of these dogs to bond with humans. I think by the time you decide what you want to do in school, volunteering would be invaluable.
