Maybe $20 million; depends on the weather. It will do fine as a rental, though.
Will Ferrell had better make a hard turn away from these lame comedies or he's headed down the Jim Carrey/Eddie Murphy path of comedy deflation.
Eddie's slide is stunning. "Beverly Hills Cop" earned $229 million on a $15 million budget. "The Adventures of Pluto Nash" earned $4 million on a $100 million budget.
Jim's slide is shorter. "Fun with Dick and Jane" did $110 million, which sounds great, until you realize "Liar Liar" did $181 million nearly ten years earlier.
Ferrell's comedies have outearned Rob Schneider's and Jack Black's work so far, but comedy is hard, great comedy is nearly impossible. Blink twice and Will Ferrell could be reduced to a bad TV sitcom.
Take a look at this weekend's take for a rough idea of how much money February movies pull in:
1. "Ghost Rider," $19.7 million.
2. "The Number 23," $15.1 million.
3. "Bridge to Terabithia," $13.6 million.
4. "Reno 911!: Miami" $10.4 million.
5. "Norbit," $9.7 million.
6. "Music & Lyrics," $8 million.
7. "Breach," $6.2 million
8. "Tyler Perry's Daddy's Little Girls, $5.3 million.
9. "The Astronaut Farmer," $4.5 million.
10. "Amazing Grace," $4.3 million.
