I feel that Jimmy Page is the best. Very consistant. Very melodic. Led Zeppelin is my favorite band, so I'm a bit bias, but I really enjoy his style.

The most listenable rock guitarists tend to keep within their personal styles too much to be great musicians; the most awesome I have heard is Joe Satriani, but I wouldn't bother buying his stuff.

The late Rory Gallagher!!
Everybody will say Hendrix, Clapton, Santana, etc but Rory was the ultimate Blues/Rock guitar player!!

That's a really hard question, but I can narrow it down to 3.
Randi Rhodes for some hard rock
Stevie Ray Vaughn for some classis blues rock
Peter Frampton for some spine tingling guitar solos...

I always laugh when I hear people talk about Zakk Wylde, but I digress. There are too many to list, but my personal favorite has to be Randy Rhoads with Eric Johnson a close second.
