If you had positive feedback from people, don't bother asking.

I'm so ready to come out but I just want to see what the "side effects" and how to cope with losing friends and whatnot.

This can only be a second hand answer. My mother accepted us whole heartedly. Gwenneth and I had decided to purchase a house and live together and thought it only right to tel our families of our situation. I never learned what Gwen's family said at the time but their reply to our housewarming invitation makes me burn to think of it. They were "starchily" religious and on an earlier occasion, told me that as a Methodist "I Was Not A Christian And Had Better Convert".
We had 42 years of this until Gwen's death. It took me ages to get over this and it was only after forgiving them that love began to creep back into my being.
Love, friendship and the support they bring are essential. May you receive all of those

I came out April 4th. Few things to follow by.
1. Don't tell anyone who doesn't need to know if you feel threatened, no point in putting it on a billboard.
2. If your school has a GSA, join it!!!
3. Depending on where you live, reactions will be different. I live in Des Moines Iowa and we are accepting for the most part but there are always people who will oppose it.
4. Each state has different laws protecting LGBT students. Iowa just signed a new law. Some states have no protection.
5. Can't find a partner less they know you're gay too!

I've yet to be bullied to any extend and I'm out. So come out and join the fun! lol.

I think this is true for most of us, but when you come out you will find disappointment where you did not expect it and wonderful surprises that you could never have imagined.

Give people a chance to accept you for who you are. Those that cannot were never worth it in the first place. Coming out is a great way of weeding out the losers in your life.

Good luck and hold your head up with pride at all times.
