Love? Yes. Honor? Yes. Obey? No Way. That word "obey" is probably the reason why couples starting writing their own wedding vows.

Yes, but conversely, a man should vow to "love, honor, and cherish" his wife; and I believe in the phrase "as long as you both shall live" instead of "until I find the concept of marriage to this person unpalatable, or I find someone that is hotter, richer or (fill in the blank)." I'm a little old fashioned that way.

I think a couple chooses what style of wedding they want. If they want a Christian, Traditional one, they will use these line.
Love- Honor- Trust
Love- Honor- Cherish
are two great options, if a non traditional vow is chosen.

Hell, if the groom has to make sacrifices, then DAMMIT, the bride should to...if they don't vow to do the same thing, it's like a loop-hole in the marriage. "I can cheat on you, she'd say, I didn't vow to honor you!"

Those words were not in our marriage vows. The word cherish replaced obey, and I did. He apparently did not. So does that make me wrong? I think not.
