Look at the answers below. The English and spelling are atrocious (look it up!)
But no-one is blaming the kids. My generation are to blame for this for the education system they make kids suffer - it has changed so many times recently that even teachers are not sure what they are doing.
Adults vote for politicians. They, in turn, nominate a Minister for education - each of which has a say in how kids are taught at school. The turn-over of Education Ministers recently has been rapid, and thus so have the ways in which they are taught.
I feel guilty about what is happening to kids today, although I tell myself all I can do is change my vote. But this only happens once every five years.

I think the statistics were actually about how kids felt themselves and since it's a national sport to moan and put ourselves down, I don't think the statistics mean anything. There is nothing wrong with the UK that isn't wrong with other countries in the west.

Years ago when my 8 year old daughter came home from school one day....and in general conversation told me that the teacher was KNITTING whilst the kids had to copy stuff from the blackboard....I knew then we were in trouble. (1980's)
However, my daughter is a happy mum and wife living in the sun in Spain, so she didn't suffer as I believe if your kid is bright enough they will get on anyway regardless of some idiot "teacher" (I use this word very loosely) who preferred to finish her jumper than teach my child.
I agree with another answerer, if you give your child love, attention and care they will flourish anywhere!
