I am four months pregnant, and have pain in my left hip towards my buttock and in the back of my left thigh - sounds like sciatica, but i havent been to the doctor yet to see if it is for sure. The pain seems to intensify if i lay down for a while, then when i move, it hurts like hell so mainly seems to flare up at night time when i get into bed. Has anyone had anything similar and does anyone know how i can get some relief from this? I did have it a little bit before i was pregnant but it seems to be getting progressivley worse the further along i get - i hate to think how im going to be when im 7months - i wont be able to walk at all!! Please help!!

I have the same problem. I had it before pregnancy, it always got worse during pregnancy. (I've had 6 children) I've been to multiple doctors, most of whom were no help. They've tested me for all kinds of things, but came up with nothing. The best explanation I have come up with is that I have damage to some of my joints due to a rare type of penicillin reaction I had a long time ago. I don't know why it got worse during pregnancy. There were two things I learned could give me very temporary relief. One was to lie flat on my back on a hard surface (the floor) and just lie there until my back sorta settled downward, then it would pop and feel better for a few minutes. I know this sounds weird, but it worked. The second thing was to stand up and bend my knee on the side with the pain and pull my leg up toward me until my back popped. I also used a chiropractor, but he really didn't help anymore than what I could do myself at home.
Two other things that have helped a lot is to make sure I have good shoes, and to walk a lot. I haven't been pregnant for 10 years, so I don't have as much problem now, but it does flare up before and during rainy weather. There's nothing I can do about that except sometimes a heating pad will help.
I hope one of these suggestions will give you some relief. Hang in there. And congratulations!

Honestly, the thing that helped me the most was chiropractic.
My first pregancy was very painful, like yours, and by the time I had numbers 2 and 3, I was seeing a chiropractor for a neck injury.
The difference between my first pregnancy and the others was like night and day.
Check with friends to make sure you get a GOOD one. This is not the time to experiment, but if you find that good one in your neighborhood, I couldn't recommend it more highly.

Congrats and I hope you feel better soon!!

It sounds like it could possibly be sciatica, but don't take any chances. Get in to see your doctor right away--it's better to be safe than sorry, and anyway, your doctor will know what to do to help relieve your discomfort. Good luck.

I have no idea, but I have the same exact thing. I'm 4 1/2 months and I thought it was just from carrying my toddler around all the time (he doesn't walk yet). And, from carrying him and loads of laundry up and the steps all day long...

Gonna watch this one...

My cousin had what symtoms you have and she had it up until she delivered. Her husband would massage her legs alot and she took tylenol for the pain.

spine manipulation from either a trained D.O. or a chiropractor. most effective and doesn't require meds.
