It could have something to do with the photoreceptive chemicals in the rods and cones. It's probably more likely due to the muscles that control the iris. By the end of the day, they can be getting tired, especially if they are used a great deal (a lot of reading, writing, etc.) Cold weather would affect them, too, by constricting the vessels that feed these muscles, causing nutrients to get to them and wastes to be removed from them more slowly.

It is possible, especially if the air temperature is at or close to 0 degrees F. Your eyes constrict making your vision impaired. Some may experience this when the temperature is only around 20 degrees F. On a warm bright, sunny day, the eyes react the same way, also.

The photo-chemicals in your eye are supposed to be less efficient at low temperatures (chemical reactions are slower if there is less energy), but since you are a warm blooded animal that keeps a constant body temperature, this should not affect you that much.

I think that your eye changes shape because when you sleep, you turn your head to the side and put weight on the side of your face (and squeeze your eye). When you walk around, gravity causes your eye to change shape again, changing your vision.

I live in Alaska, where the temp gets -40 to -60 Since the fuel prices have gone up. Fuel consumption is very important here. The problem with living and driving in the cold is condensation ( water build up ) in the gas tank. I find, that if you add I-so heat in your fuel tank at every filling you will not only have better gas but, also better gas mileage.
