today black smoke came out the back of my car when i drove onto the main road out by my house... not sure what might be the problem but was wondering if anyone knew if that was something really serious...happenedd twice today as i was driving.i have a 92 lexus es300

black smoke is a sign of gas over loading in it ,this may have been a random thing and it may never do it again it could have been the temperature that affected it ,or the car may have not warmed up all the way yet,if it does it again,take it by any auto zone and have them do a scan on the computer and see if it left a trouble code in it,if it did this may just have been an intermittent problem with it,and you may never see the problem again,or it may start doing it all the time,by scanning it though,you,ll have a better idea of whats going on with it,good luck i hope this help,s.

Black smoke is unburned fuel. Gray is oil. For some reason, your fuel mixture was rich; perhaps because it was still in warm-up mode or you have some bad plugs or wires.

black smoke is most likely oil burning at a high rate, sounds like one of your oil rings on your piston is bad and isn't cleaning the oil off of your cylinder walls...

Black smoke is usually from;
Fuel system over pressure (fuel pressure regulator).
Flooded from defective coolant temp. sensor.
Stuck or leaking fuel injector(s).
Cylinder miss-fire
