Especially since the way kids learn is to do the homework. I personally don't mind giving a little bit of help, but some of these kids just ask for someone to give the answers. When you answer one do you feel you are giving them the easy way out? Asking for input or advice is one thing but asking someone else to solve it for them is just cheating them out of a learning process.

I agree with you. Giving the askers the homework answers does not help them learn. I might go so far as to tell them WHERE they can find the answer, but not the answer itself. Children of all ages have always asked their friends and classmates for answers for as long as school and homework have been around. Internet just makes it easier to ask more people in the hopes of getting an answer. Either way, I consider it cheating, and the child will eventually need to figure it out for themselves when test time comes.

I think it is irresponsible for people to give answers rather than help. They aren't doing the students any favors and they are setting the expectation that answers will simply be given. Some things just need to be explained in a different way and some concepts need to be explained, but there is a huge difference between helping someone and giving answers.

Couldn't agree more. It makes a lot of sense to explain how to do something -- that's part of the learning process, but simply giving an answer doesn't teach them anything. It's especially disheartening to know that some of them are going online with their Blackberries to get answers during a test.....

The sad thing is, some of the questions could be easily answered if the students just made a little effort to Google it. They have no idea how lucky they are to have the internet. I hated always having to go to the library and look stuff up. I wonder if they bothered to ask their parents for help?

giving the answer verbatim is probably not good, but consider that some of these kids are in really bad situations with no adult who cares enough to help. Those are the ones I help.

yep. I think it's good to step in with resources and tips. . .but not to spell it out for them. I like the kids who ask questions about WHERE they can find information on something--rather than what the answer is.

No. How would you feel if you were a kid? On the other hand, if you don't give the way to get the answer it probably is (as you put it) 'ridiculus.'
