Tampons will help you feel cleaner during this time. If this is your first time trying them out I would get Playtex or the Tampax Pearls.. Something with a plastic applicator and rounded tip. It will help you insert the tampon. Buy the ones that are for regular or light periods at first. Super Absorbacy is going to be a larger tampon which will be harder to use at first.
If you have trouble inserting the tampon you can use some KY Jelly to help them slide into your vagina. After time this will become easier to use.
Make sure you change your tampon every couple of hours. Read the warning lables on the box because you can get sick from them. At the beginning do not sleep in them until your are comfortable using them.
When you insert the tampon you shouldn't feel it. If you do chances are you don't have it far enough in. You can push it up with your finger if you are having discomfort.
I would only use a tampon if you have a heavy flow. Having a light flow will cause you to have to wear the tampon longer and could be dry when you have to pull it out. Nothing terrible just use caution.
Check out the following link it is a step by step guide.

it all depends. you should try the tampons out and see if they work for you. personally i use tampons during the day because they are a lot less messy and during sports i don't have to worry about if my pad is going to slide around and get some blood on my WHITE uniform. But i always use pads at night so i don't have to get up in the middle of the night to change my tampon. If you do use a tampon NEVER leave it in for more than 8 hours because you can get poisoning from it, personally though i don't like to leave mine in for more than an 5 hours though. Depending on how heavy your flow is you might have to change you tampon more often. Also a tip from experience-wear a thin panty liner w/ your tampon so in case you get a heavy flow the tampon wont leak onto your pants. Hope i could help.

I use them all the time. Its more comfrotable knowing that the chances of me "having an accident - ie. leakage" are going to be fairly limited versus using pads. It's really up to you. If you're not comfortable with using tampons for the first time, go with the ones with plastic applicators. The tips are rounded, so they'll go in a lot easier. Also try using the Junior tampons then slowing making your way up to higher absorbancy tampons when you get used to using them.

i used pads for a year until a hawaii trip where i was kindof forced into using tampons so i could swim haha i would never go back to pads personally bcuz theyre a mess! i use tampax or playtex tampons with the slim or regular size. when youre jsut starting to use them you may want to try out slim or light tampons & only try them when youre on your period. otherwise its a little painful. i can never feel the tampon. its so nice! be sure to change them every 3 or 4 hours to avoid over-soakage & so you wont get the disease they warn you about in the tampon boxes. tampons are much cleaner & definitely a great choice! hope they work for you!

When I had my very first period I went straight on tampons. Pads can be a bit messy, 'specially if you are a heavy bleeder. Make sure you are well informed on TSS before using them though, its something you don't need to mess around with. I suggest starting with a smaller one to begin with (Junior/Lite/Light). You could always go for a variety pack which comes with different sizes and you can figure out which size/absorbancy is best for you. Make sure you are not tense when you try to use one or it will sure as heck be uncomfortable. If their are things you are unsure of, just talk to your mom or an older female you feel comfortable about talking about this with.

it depends on you. some girls prefer pads and some prefer tampons. i prefer maxi thins by always because they are comfy for me. i've tried tampons before and it was hard for me because the tampon kept slipping and plus I had to change very often about 4 hours in order to avoid toxic shock. With pads I would change every 6 hours and also wearing pads Overnites is easier because I don't have to change tampons in the middle of the nite. My advice is go with whatever is comfy for you.

You will still have the feeling but you may feel less self conscious, just don't leave them in to long depending on how light or heavy your flow no more than 8 hours.
