Have any of you had one drug-induced labor (using petosin)? What was it like?

If you've had a drug-induced labor and a labor that was brought on naturally without drugs, did you notice a difference?

The doctor wants to induce me if I don't go into labor by my due date because he's afraid of pre-eclampsia. I'm really healthy so far, but the history of high blood pressure means they don't want to take any chances.

What should I do?

No idea why the first poster got thumbs down; that was a good answer. Induction carries its own set of risks. (See articles here for a start: http://www.hencigoer.com/articles/

(.pdf file) says "delivery induction is not indicated for a preterm fetus with no evidence of fetal compromise in women with mild disease."

Note the 'When is that baby due?' article on the first link. Due dates are a poor 'science,' in my opinion.

A second opinion would probably be worthwhile. Good luck!

i was border line pre eclampsia i was on bed rest i went natural with one it was labor with my second they gave me a vaginal pill that really didn't do anything then they used a long crocheting needle looking thing it popped my water talk about felling good,it relieved so much pressure.then they used the petosin it worked real well especially when they turned up the iv but it gets u contracting quickly more so than naturally but that was just me
you cant really tell the difference cause the end result is contractions they start out easy and get harder and harder and faster and before you know it all the pain is gone its still there but once you look into YOUR babies eyes you feel nothing but the warmest heartfelt joy you could ever imagine.just take it easy if they say take it easy sleep now all you can cause if this is your first you ll never get a full nights sleep again that wont happen till high school.good luck

I had to be induced as my water broke and I wasnt having contractions. It took a good 10-15 minutes for the contractions to start up. They start small and feel like mild braxton hicks but get stronger. When you get to the point of a little more pain than you want, they may give you a pain killer (that put me to sleep) until the pain is too much and give you an epidural. I didnt mind any of the drugs that I was given. It was actually a wonderful experience and I hope the second (due in may) goes just as easy.

I was induced with my 3rd baby.

Overall it went well. I was 1-2cm and 70% and baby was at -3 station when it started. They just put me on a pitocin drip since I was already dilated. After 6hrs I had no change and the pain was getting a little uncomfortable so I got an epidural, after that I started to change quickly. He was born 6hrs later. 20mins before he was born I was 7cm and he was at -2 station, my OB broke my water and he literally came flying out. I don't know if it was because of the pitocin or what. He ended up having to go to NICU since he didn't get squeezed like he should have.

All in all it asn't that different from my other 2 "natural" deliveries.

I was induced because of suspected IUGR and I have a blood clotting disorder; I was 37w6d.

I've only had one pregnancy, but i have experienced both. I went into labor on my own, but when i got to 9 centimeters, there were some complications and i stopped having contractions completely. Then i dropped down to 7 centimeters. (sounds weird but it happened). They had to give me petosin to start my contractions going again. And in my experience, petosin is the devil! Try anything you can to naturally go into labor, because it really sucks getting induced.

This sounds like a darned if you do, darned if you don't.

Most often Petosin has very terrible side effects and makes birthing longer, more painful, and gerally more difficult.

But Pre-Eclampsia is serious, also...

Don't necessarilly trust your doctor. Get lots of opinions and do what you feel is right.

Good Luck and Congratulations!!!
