Negative numbers are smaller than positive numbers and also smaller than zero.
So, 1/4 is GREATER THAN -1/2.

1/4 > -1/2.

the answer is 1/4 because anything over zero on the number line is higher than zero or under.
also...
1/4=0.25
and
-1/2=-0.5
