I just ran virus scan and it detected 700 viruses in a folder that does not exist on my computer, even when i select "show hidden files and folders". There were files there that i definitely had not downloaded.

How can this be?

My computer is on a network.

Has someone hi-jacked my computer? if so, what can i do to stop this? is it something to do with firewall settings?

Probably detecting it off the computer you are connected to. You may want to temporarily break the connection to your computer to pervent it from seeding into your computer.

You must contact the network administrator and if they are unable to fix the problem immediately, then you need to disconnect from that network. A virus scan program should give you the option at the end to remove these files and folders. Select that and let the program remove them. The program will then put them on a permanent - Bar- list and not let them come back. The virus program will not remove files or folders that you need. Only those that are dangerous to your computer. But most important is if the network system administrator cannot correct this immediately or there is no administrator, disconnect from this network immediately. They are a danger to you and your computer.

PLAIN BS those scans for free I take it. Especially 700 viruses that is something not ever seen anywhere except maybe in the FBI files in Washington.

Use a reputable scan, AVG free, www.grisoft.com or use your Norton or McAfee that is fully up to date. .

It probably is on a "Shared Folder / or Shared Drive" and the Server Administrator needs to deal with this, if your at work and try to deal with this then even though you didn't do it, they will seek a scapegoat, and you could be it... Contact the PC Help Desk and let them take care of it.....
