I've heard it referred to as dream sharing. In a way it falls into the same activity as telepathy because it signifies an openness between two people and a connecting route for sharing. There are different realms and different types of telepathy. The most common, at our stage of evolution, is astral or emotional telepathy. This includes those situations where we suddenly know something has happened to a loved one. We know because we have a strong emotional connection so the feelings are able to communicate. Beyond the emotional telepathy lies the mental. On the mental realm concepts, ideas, thoughts and principles are able to be shared or impressed upon one another. Many esotericists and metaphysicians theorize that most of our inventions and civilization changing ideas were impressed, by higher lifeforms, upon someone able to interpret the impression who then creates the idea on the physical plane. These inventors often say the idea came to them in a dream.

The etheric web of the planet is composed of or contains the millions of etheric bodies upon the planet. This web functions much like the nervous system within our bodies, sending messages, impulses and interpreting such.

An excellent read is TELEPATHY by Alice A Bailey. I'll put a link to where you can read it online if you choose.

When two people have the same dream, you both are likely astrally projecting and "meeting up" on the astral plane. It's rare to have the same dream, and sometimes having the same dream as someone else can simply show the deep spiritual connection you have to that person. I haven't heard of one specific term really that is simply for dream sharing.

My father and I both have accident dreams before someone in the family gets into a car accident. We just have that common bond.

Im not quite sure, but when I have experienced shared dreams like this, there have almost always been exceedingly strong telepathic connection to the other characters in the dream.

Some years ago, Richard Bach (author of Jonathan Livingston Seagull) wrote a lovely book in which he and his wife were practicing leaving their bodies at night and finally were successfull at doing it simultaneously. I think the title of the book was Bridge Across Forever. Maybe it is annotated with references? Anyway, this is about two people having the same dream. Hope this helps.

Yeah, it does fall into the broad domain of telepathy. It is not totally absurd though, for telepathic devices may just be coming to the market.Just check the links that I provide. One from the physicsweb website, the other from my own blog which discusses about it.
