It's not called pretending. It's called being polite.

Honey, I work in government...I meet people I have to be nice to all day long. I can't say that I necessarily hate them, but I do put on that smile even though the minute I walk out the door, I have no intention of every socializing with these people. It's a part of life. Not everyone gets along...that's just the way it goes. It shouldn't lead to hate though. It takes far to much energy to hate someone. And half the time, that person could care less how you feel about them. Focus on the ones you do care about and let those less desired ones pass through you like the wind.

It is a form of survival really and some people even consider it part of life skill. For example, a boss that you detest but you have to pretend because the pay is good, a relative you have to bear because she looked after your father and brought him up or a teacher who picks on you and breathes down your throat but you have to pretend if you do not wish to get a bad grade, or someone among your peers whom you cannot stand but have to pretend because it is not in your nature to be rude or callous. The list continues and this is life.

I wouldn't if I were you. It's a total lie and it would only make you uncomfortable being around them. That kind of stuff just messes up your life and eats away at your conscience.

I am nice to people I don't like but I keep things a little cool and general so as not to encourage further interaction.
