Please take this seriously, even though this seems trivial.

If you see a drowning insect or spider, is it better to save them, end their misery, or let nature take its course?

If you're an expert on insects, or have some background info, include that, too. Thanks.

Adding: After you save them, do they still suffer?

I'm not an expert on insects but I try and have reverence for every aspect of life, so I take your question seriously. I wonder things like this, sometimes, too. I would defer to "mother nature" or God or whatever anyone wants to call it. I'd let nature take its course but my intention would be peaceful and respectful. If I saw a fellow human being drowning I would definitely try and save the person. When it comes to different species I don't think I should interfere with nature.

If I see a drowning insect, I will save them unless it is a Black Widow or something like that. I once saw a snake with a frog in his mouth. He was being swallowed back feet first and he has a little red blood spot on his head and his eyes looked like they were a little bugging out. So I touched the snake with a stick (touched, not hit). The snake let go of the frog and ran down a hole. It was a really hot day, so I covered the frog with a large leaf to shield it from the sun. I checked a little later and the frog was gone so I guess it survived. As for the snake it had to find another meal. I removed a lizard from a swimming pool and really thought it was a goner. But even though it took a couple of hours it survived.

Most insects can swim. But if it is drowning, it is humane enough to save it.

Caution: Use a stick, twig or an object. Do not use your hand or fingers, as the suffering insect might bite you due to stress. At the same time, do not take very long time in search of an object.

its funny you ask that sort of question. i myself would do whatever feels natural to me at the time. sometimes you think its funny watching something drown and sometimes you feel for the organism, insect or human. do what feels natural, dont let what others think be the deciding factor in the question to save or not to save. do what makes you feel good.

Generally in that situation, I will save them. Nothing deserves to suffer; and if they are in my house, I put them outside.

I like to wait until they are about to drown then save them. Then I throw them back in the water.
