P = 2(W+L)

the length are givens, just plug them in

70 = 2(W + 1)
35 = W + 1
W = 34ft

do the same thing for the other lengths

1*2=2 70-2=68/2=34
If the length is 1 ft, the width will be 34 ft.
2*2=4 70-4=66/2=33
If the length is 2 ft, the width will be 33 ft
2*3=6 70-6=64/2=32
If the length is 3 ft, the width will be 32 ft

For a length of 1 ft: 34 ft (70-2=68/2=34)

For a length of 2 ft: 33 ft (70-4=66/2=33)

For a length of 3 ft: 32 ft (70-6=64/2=32)

The perimeter of a rectangle will have 4 sides so....
1ft length X two sides = 2ft. That leaves 68 ft for the other two sides. 68 / 2 = 34ft. 34+34+1+1=70ft. The width of other rectangles can be obtained the same way. Perimeter minus 2X length = 2X width.

The perimeter of a rectangle equals two times the length plus two times the width.

P = 2L + 2w

Just plug the information you have into the equation.

ONE FOOT -
we know that:
P = 70ft
L = 1ft
we need to find 'w'

70 = 2(1) + 2w (multiply first)
70 = 2 + 2w (subtract 2 from both sides)
68 = 2w (divide both sides by 2)
34 = w
So...the width would be 34ft

TWO FEET -
we know that:
P = 70ft
L = 2ft
we need to find 'w'

70 = 2(2) + 2w
70 = 4 + 2w
66 = 2w
33 = w
So...the width would be 33ft

THREE FEET -
we know that:
P = 70ft
L = 3ft
we need to find 'w'

70 = 2(3) + 2w
70 = 6 + 2w
64 = 2w
32 = w
So...the width would be 32ft

You need to work with ONE LENGTH at a time.

I will use one of the lengths given for you to use as a guide for the other two.

Ready?

You will also need the perimeter of a rectangle formula.

P = 2L + 2W

We know the perimeter = 70 feet.

We do not know the width. I will call the width x.

Width = x. When we find x, we'll find our width.

I will use the length of 3 feet.

Plug and chug is your ticket to the answer.

P = 2L + 2W

70 feet = 2(3feet) + 2x

70 feet = 6 feet + 2x

70 feet - 6 feet = 2x

64 feet = 2x

64 feet divided by 2 = x

32 feet = x.

The width is 32 feet when the length = 3 feet.

Now, you do the same for the other two length measurements.

the width of the rectangle must be 34ft if the lengthe is 1 ft. 33ft if its 2 ft. and 32ft if its 3 ft.

P=2w+2l, or in other words, perimeter=width times 2+length times 2.
sooo....

70=2(1)+2w
70=2+2w
70-2=2w
68=2w
34=w

the answer for the first one is 34ft

#2: using the same formula

70=2(2)+2w
70=4+2w
70-4=2w
66=2w
33=w

the answer for the second one is 33ft

#3: again using the same formula

70=2(3)+2w
70=6+2w
70-6=2w
64=2w
32=w

the answer for the last one is 32ft.

please don't copy my answers and try to understand them instead. thanx.
