I am from a small town in Georgia, and most people here say the word "long" like "loan" but with a "g" instead of the "n." Also, we say "on" like it were spelled "own" ---the bug was "own" the wall. I watch TV and people never talk like this....but when I am at work or anywhere, people use this pronunciation, even professional people who are from here. What do you think about this?

Nothing wrong with it, it's cute. Just remember, it's all relative. I was born and raised right outside Atlanta, and you might have a deep accent to me, but if we went up to New York, they would laugh at both of us. Personally, I don't like northern accents, not easy on the ears. As long as the people around you talk the same way, who cares?

I hear many people who talk with a southern accent, doesn't bother me. Some people just mumble and can't speak right because of bad grammar, different from people with accents. I have no problem as long as I can understand what you are saying.

Well it's a regional thing and if it bothers you, take some speech lessons to lose your accent , although I'm sure someone will accuse you of puttin on airs.

I frankly love regional accents, well any accents actually and I love a drawl no matter where it comes from in the US.

absolutely not. read word on the street by John McWhorter. Everyone has an accent -- the privileged one is the one most often associated with the group with the most amount of power but all accents are created equal

Be proud of where you're from and your heritage. Never let anyone put you down because in doing so, they are also putting down your roots. Stand tall, and you may tell them, they talk funny. Who is to say, who's right?

my best friend's wife says a southern drawl is very sexy, GA and AL specifically, but she says that kentuckians are hard to understand, not sexy, just comical.
