Without a doubt Wilt Chamberlain. No player has more NBA records. (The best scorer of All Time (30.1) , The Best Rebounder of All Time [to mention a few] ). He even led the NBA in Assists one year. He won MVP's and NBA Championships. Finally he dominated the game so much they had to make rules to slow down his dominance(3 second rule). He was clearly the best.

Clearly Bill Russell-- even better than MJ. 11 championships in 13 years speaks for itself (dwarfs MJ's 6 championships). The guy didn't care about records or individual accolades. It was all about winning, and that is what he did (opposite of Wilt Chamberlain-- they both played in the same era, Russell knocked Wilt the Stilt out of 7 of the 8 playoffs in which they met). The guy also had the talent to put up crazy numbers, but like I said, he didn't care, because he was a winner.

However, just on a basis of style points and entertainment, Pete Maravich and Bob Cousy were fantastically entertaining to watch play.

And as for the guys who put up huge numbers: obviously Chamberlain was amazing, Kareem Abdul-Jabar, John Stockton, Magic Johnson, Hakeem Olajuwan, Oscar Robertson and MJ.

As for just great players: Larry Bird, Shaq and Scottie Pippen and a whole load of guys whom it would take too long to list.

PS, Dwight Howard, LeBron James, Wade, Carmelo Anthony, Chris Paul, Greg Oden, and Kevin Durant are all ones to watch for the future (or now).

Michael Jordan is without a doubt the greatest player ever to grace the courts of the NBA
After him, no one has really proven to be the next best player, as Jordan is in a class of his own...

This debate has shown up many times around the league throughout the media, and throughout many polls, and it appears the majority of times that next players has been Wilt Chamberline.

Other guys whos name has shown up as the number 2 are:
Oscar Robertson
Bill Russell
Magic Johnson
Larry Bird
Kareem Abdul Jabbar
Jerry West (though he shows up the least without question)

I've never seen anyone else considered for the number 2 slot, although many fans believe that LeBron James is "the next one", and that Kobe Bryant is the best player to play in the league since Jordan left.

it's really hard to name an all-time best players when you are talking about different positions. There has been many great players such as Magic, MJ, Kareem, Larry, and Wilt, Shaq, and my all time fav. Kobe, but like I said its hard to say when you talk about different positions. Point Blank Kobe will always be my favorite #24!!!

I must state the obvious choices: Jabbar-Bird-Chamberlin-Russel and Magic...I mean we all know they are great-But what about the young guys....LeBron-Dwade-Kobe-I personally think one of the young ones will be better than MJ-

So...I think LeBron♥ is [presently] the best and will [someday] be better than Michael Jordan*
