Seriously, I hadn't listened to them in quite a while until today I pulled out a couple of records and they were, except for a select few songs, terrible. Most of what I heard was superficial mysticism, bad poetry and mediocre attempts at the blues.

So, I would like to invite all of their fans to defend the Doors and tell me what I am missing. Give me some reasons why The Doors are worthy of acclaim and reverence because I can't think of many.

don't listen to what the other answerers said! it's krap... look, i'm a huge fan of the doors, i love them for many reasons! first of all, they have their very own musical univers and sound - unlike many rock bands who just have a simple guitar, bass and drums, the doors had an organ sound and a spanish guitar... very original! and jim morrison's voice was very deep and mysterious. the lyrics too were deep, before being put into songs, most of them were poems written by jim morrison which i thought was also very original because bands like the beatles and all (that i like very much), it's like first they find a nice melody and then they add words to it and try to make them rhyme (that's the impression they give - any word will do as long as they rhyme, you know?) and also, they were very open to many different musical styles so yeah, blues was one of them and i find that 'roadhouse blues' is an excellent song for a rocker! hindi-style music was also one of the genres that interested jim morrison and you see that in the song 'indian summer' and 'the end' and those two songs are some of my favorites! there was also hard rock like in 'back door man'. and the mysticsm you are referring to is what i like the best in the doors, you should listen to the song 'not to touch the earth' for example, it's really good - it takes you somewhere else and puts you in this chaotic weird and paranormal atmosphere like no other bands do! and jim morrison himself was such a strange person, very unpredicatble, especially after his death but he's a legend for a reason! and they did mark the XXth century music! but then, i mean, i love the doors and i think that for the doors, either you hate them or you love them... i personally love them, when i listen to their songs it gives me a chill in the back! haha it's weird to say that i know... but it's true! i'm only 14 you see and i grew up with the doors, my parents also loved them so for me it's natural that the doors are an excellent band

i can think of any reasons, the guitar player learned to play a month or two b4 the abnd was formed, waht does taht tell you about him? the music is repetitious, too much so and morison was a drunk pretty boy, nothing more, good thing they came along wehn tehy did, freaky 60s ditn amtter if teh music was good just so long as it was loud and freaky. worst band ever. HATE the doors, teh only song i do like is the end and tahts cuz it was used so well in apocalypse now

I think they had their own original style and their music seems to come from the heart.
