Trust, Love, Commitment and communication and honesty. Relationships need more then just 3 things and even more then I listed.

Honesty, intimacy, and love. Without those things there is no basis for a good relationship. You build a relationship up..like blocks without the basic structure...those three things...the relationship will crumble.

The ability for both to communicate feelings honestly & openly without harsh fighting, Being Real about your expectations and what life has to offer, being Friends in good/bad & the silence.
One great way to know if you got it......a long Car drive.....life's like that, once the distractions are away, the songs have been played, and your bored, smelly and tired....and you still enjoy their company....that's a good marriage.

Trust in each other and the marriage.
Communication about everything where you repeat back what the other person says to make sure you heard correctly !

Like CJ said, "COMMUNICATION" by 3X is best. You can't have trust, love, understanding, faith, hope, respect, or any other value or emotion without communication. It will strengthen and sustain the toughest relationships as long as you both are truly "committed".
