I just got sick 3 days ago with a sore throat...over the past 3 days it's progressed to nausea, fever (101), body aches, stuffed head/sinus, runny nose and cough. My dr. can't see me for over a month...when is it appropriate to go to emergency care? I don't think I'm incredibly sick, but I am getting worried because I'm getting a lot worse. Should I wait it out with over the counter medicine (My HMO will ony let me go to my primary unless an emergency)?

See if there is a walk in clinic in your area and go. Most insurance companies have a co-pay for this situation, call the number on the back of your insurance card and ask them about it before you go. It sound like you have a pretty bad cold, if left untreated it may turn into something worse.

If the fever continues to go up to 104, or if you feel sick for more than 1 week, then is time to go to urgent care. Does your HMO offer physician assistants, or a nurse consulting phone number? If so, those might also be possibilities other than the ER.
Meanwhile, drink plenty of fluids and get extra rest. Hope you feel better soon.

IN Ontario we have telehealth a nurse that we can call for information before going to emergency or a walk in clinic

if you continue having a fever and you are getting worse then go to a walk in clinic or ask the doctors office to be on a cancellation list or even if you can be a squeeze in

Good luck and I hope you feel better soon
