my headlights are not really that bright and the high beams arent much better.how do i fix this problem?get new bulbs?if not what should i do?

It could be a couple things.

1) Dirty/cloudy light lenses.
2) Weak alternator charge circuit. (13.8 VDC minimum)
3) Faulty ground wire at headlight housing.
4) Old worn out bulb filiments.

Try cleaning the lenses with "Bar Keepers Friend". It's a powdered very mild abrasive powder like Ajax (tm) or Comet (tm) and can be found in the same isle in the store.

If that does not help as much as you had hoped, find a friend that has a volt meter and check the voltage at the battery while the engine is running, and the lights are on. {13.8 volts DC minimum.}

If you're STILL not happy, change the bulbs.

I think you have a bad ground on your head light circut. Check your wiring around the headlights and look for a dirty or loose connection...

you describe symptioms of an altornator that is slowly dying. I know that is a rareity, but it does happen
