Yahoo News is reporting that this year's "gift bags" given to celebrities attending Sunday's Academy Awards are valued at $71,000. In past years when these "gifts" have been scaled back, celebrities have complained about not "getting anything." Yet, aren't many of these the same folks who preach to the us ordinary folks about socialist ideals?

Because they are Liberals and Liberals are always doing the very thing that they say you shouldn't. You need to focus on something other than Hollywood kiddo.

Liberals are Hippocrates. First you need to be able to identify a liberal. Here are some pointers:
1: They will always except items of value.
2: They will never offer anything in return.
3: They have no long term memory, thus they flip flop.
4: When several are talking to an audience, they will each try and out do the others with a more radical idea. Here is a discussion I over heard two liberals talking about the other day at work.
Lib1: Did you hear about the rape case on the news. They gave the guy 5 years in prison.
Lib2: You can murder someone and not get that many years. He got the shaft.
Lib1: You know how those girls down there dress, how could he control himself, he should have gotten probation.
Lib2: She was asking for it, for all we know she freely had sex and then wanted something for it.
Lib1: That's black mail, she should be in jail.
Lib2: Let her get the abortion and call it a done deal and let him go.
Lib1: For all that he has been through she should get something.
By taking these items, they feel it is the big business responsibility to give them up. Nothing else can be said about this.

a lot of assumptions here... mainly that they hate big business... some may, but really the movies is big business... so they can't hate it that much...
basically... I would like to see some cited quotes that back you up from a Hollywood celebrity that has accepted the gift bags... because I don't buy the facts your giving out...
just because they don't like the war, it doesn't mean they are a communist...everyone who doesn't think like you is a communist...
this seems to be a "my facts are based on stereotypes" kind of question...

Because people like Tom Cruise are upper class snobs who would accept a 10 cent pencil for free. Whats his new kids name??? Skyblue, Cleopatrica or something they will hate to live with.

Because a lot of those celebrities are clueless airheads who like to follow the hot trends of the time. Look at all the celebs who are converting to Kaballah (sp?) and Scientology just because it's the cool thing to do. There are quite a few of them who support people like Mumia Abu-Jamal (a convicted murderer) not because they believe so much in the cause, but because it'll get them more attention.

they aren't $71k giftbags anymore because of the IRS and their gift reporting requirements. they are more like $500 gift bags

uh...because they're free....
They don't hate big business....they hate businesses that operate sweat shops, don't pay their employees fairly, takes advantage of weak labor laws in other countries, don't allow unions and manipulate stocks. Liberals love the way Warren Buffet operates his businesses--good pay and high ethics....and Buffet happens to be a liberal/democrat. Got it?
