Seriously as someone who spent a decade working in bookstores - and married to a published author - over thirty titles in Amazon - the answer is:

Pick a last name that is:

A) easy to spell i.e. like King
B) in the first half of the alphabet - because the books are shelved in fiction and genre by AUTHOR and most book readers start at the beginning of the section i.e. at "A" and then keep going till they have enough books for this visit.
C) A short FIRST NAME because the author's name appears on the cover and you want it in a large font - ANNE RICE - best if the first name is the same size as the last name too!

However, if you are a stunning storyteller than you will get published regardless of the advice here - so Mark Twain - go for it!

probably just a series of letters written as though they were initials. Such as:

R. M. K. W. F. V. O.

i might just do a series of initials, like, say, W.T.F

or maybe make up a new name. Carla Gooberman, anyone?
