wow some of these answers shocked me! When you get your period, your vagina is fully grown so you CAN use tampons. I'd stick to junior or regular absorpancy/size though because the larger ones can be a bit uncomfortable for a beginner. They will absolutely "work", and it does NOT matter in any way that you are a virgin. Talk to your mom/parent about this though for sure, tampons can be a bit tricky to get right when you first start, and there are loads of brands and types to choose from. Mom's are great at helping with that stuff, I promise! Good luck!

Why would it matter how old you are? Don't beleive the old wives tale about you'l lose your virginity and blah blah blah. I got my period when I was 14 and I hardly every have used a pad since. Use small ones, squat down, and don't tense up. The more relaxed you are, the easier it is. In the end though, it only matters what is more comforable for you. I think you will see that tampons are a much more sanitary way to deal with your period. Pads can get messy and smelly. Good Luck!
P.S.- What they are saying about "still developing" is not true. If it was, the tampon industry would put out a warning not to use them if you are young. It is perfectly safe. Just make sure to take them out every few hours.

13? I'm assuming you have never had intercourse. I wouldn't recommend using tampons unless you have had sex because it may cause you to break your hymen (also considered your virginity). However, if you absoutely hate sanitary napkins (pads) then yes, I would say use tampons. They are awkward to use the first time so read the directions carefully and be careful. Make sure your hands are clean!!! Hope this helps and congrats on becoming a woman!!!!

Alot of people would say no, probably, but I think you should wait until you are a little older. 16, 17 maybe. Right now, your body is still forming and developing. You are inserting something inside of you that can harm that development. Wait until your body slows down from changing - then start using tampons.. Its safer and healthier for your growing body.

I think you should be able to use a tampon w/o any ill effect. Use the Jr. size - they're very slim - just for your age.
Here's a nice little website w/ all kinds of health info for girls.

sweetie you are young yet to use a tampon, continue to use sanitary napkins for a few years yet, they should really only be worn occassionly, let the blood flow, that way you can keep an eye for changes of color or anything that might be happening. congratulations on becoming a young woman. Good luck, God bless and put angels on your pillows.
