How should today's youth compact negative moral influences?

Compact? You mean combat?
It's hard for youth to do this on their own. What they need are secure attachments with their caretakers, followed by good education, and then (in my opinion) enough liberty to really decide for themselves what's OK and what's not good for them. In other words, absolute shelter from negative moral influences will not make them strong in resisting those influences once they're out from under their parents' supervision.

church and youth group are great options. as well as programs through the community and your local ymca
