Labor starts when the cervix thins, eventually loosening the mucus plug, which starts to fall out (can be in pieces or one larger amount). Semen can assist in loosening the mucus plug, etc., but nothing is a given except when the baby is ready to come. Walking, riding over bumps, etc., etc., etc., are all wives tales. A baby comes when a baby is ready to come, unless of course, you have a "wonderful" obgyn that gets into a hurry and induces labor. So many treat pregnancy as a "disease" instead of a temporary condition. Best of luck!

Patience. You'll you into labour when it's time for you to do so. If you're not close enough, then your baby's lungs might not be able to handle breathing, so don't try to rush things.

BTW, sex can start contractions only if your body and your baby are ready for labour. And if your doctor feels that you could induce premature labour by having sex, DON"T INDULGE.

Alex, I'm sorry for your loss.

No one will believe this, but the prostoglandins in semen that help start labor are actually more effective if taken orally.

Yeah, I know that's the last thing you feel like doing right now.

Try eating a really big meal. That, and having sex, worked for me with my first child.

Sometimes nothing, with my last pregnancy, i was 41 weeks, and i tried sex, walking, spicy and chinese food, cleaning the house, but nothing. My dr. even stripped my membranes (aka performed a rough pelvic) and nothin. He came when he wanted to...although my girlfriend swears by nipple stimulation (as it releases chemicals in your body)

Though my last OB/GYN told me "not much," my previous pregnancy my midwife had told me to squat and walk as much as possible, also "cat/nag" type exercises as it got close to time. Her view was that it seemed to help, and even if it wasn't doing anything to jumpstart the contractions it was good for you.
