I know, this is a pretty random question. But today while on the phone with my best friend I was telling her how I was at the mall with my mom and I got two shirts, my friend said I was spoiled. And I know I'm a pretty sensitive person, but I took offense. I tried defending myself and said that I wasn't a brat or anything. She replied with her "know-it-all" voice (that she often gets, by the way) and said that being spoiled means only that my parents give me whatever I want. I told her that it's a mean thing to say and she said it wasnt and that its "stupid" that I would take offense at something like that. So we sat in silence for about two minutes (over the phone) until I said I wasn't mad at her or anything. She didn't say she wasn't mad at me, but she was standing by her statement and how it wasn't mean or anything. Then she said she was going to go and she'd talk to me some other time.
Usually, I wouldn't even let her know this bothered me, but she does say stuff like this a lot.

her: "you're spoiled"

you: "are you jealous?"

her: shuts up....

on a side note, being told you're spoiled (regardless of whether or not you are) isn't anything to get upset over. no need in stressing yourself out over nothing. if she's jealous, so be it; if she's not, then she's just running her mouth to hear herself talk.

It's not necessarily a bad thing to be "spoiled"--as long as you aren't spoiled rotten. We tend to spoil the ones we love just because it makes them and you feel good to make you happy. I know I spoil my cats and I certainly don't intend to change that because they keep me happy. Usually, when someone slaps something like "you're spoiled" on you, it just means they are a little jealous that they aren't getting the same treatment. You can either play the "yes I'm so lucky" card or the "I wish you could be just as spoiled as me" card--either way, you won't have to deal with these uneasy feelings and both you and your friend would be in agreement. And there's less of a chance your friend will bring it up again because you've already settled that issue--move on to the something else.

And this is your best friend? Isn't that one thing that best friends can do, say something like that without someone getting mad.Maybe she is a bit envious that you went shopping with your mom and got new shirts.Don't be too hard on your friend just talk to her and say "Hey why do you say stuff like that" Get it out there and talk about it then let it go.

Damn, I know exactly how You feel, because I get that a lot too and Im pretty sensitive. Whenever people tell Me that I'm spoiled i just answer by saying " No I'm just well taken car of"...and I leave it at that.

My friend said something like that once. She said,"Your rich, aren't you?" and for some reason,I took great offense to that. I attacked her on the spot. I forced her down then I scratched her arm and that's all I remember.I still don't think it was the right thing to do but I did it and there's not changin' that.Don't attack your friend just say,"wow,I really don't think wether I'm spoiled or not concerns you!" and then ask her something herself.

You proboly are and don't know it. Kind of like when you are grumpy, you never realize it. It takes someone who is not to recognize it. In 20 years you might say that you were spioled when you were younger.
