i had a Vbac and it went very well. i was in much better physical condition the second time around and found an OBGYN willing to let me try.. many are not willing to try vaginal birth after c-section(Vbac) because of the risk of opening up your c scar. my doctor encouraged it as my children were 10 years apart and there was little risk of rupture. I am very glad I did, as the experience of natural birth was far nicer than being all whacked out on anesthesia..sure it hurt, but not enough for me to ask for drugs. If you are in good physical condition and your c section was more than a year ago.. i don't see a reason not to try, but your doctor will know best.!
good luck

Yes, with the latest advances in medical technology it is highly possible to have a natural childbirth after a C-section. However, there are several factors involved that could affect a doctor's decision such as your overall health status or that of the child, the measure of risk involved with having a larger baby, the type of C-section (although most procedures today are done with a "bikini cut"), the position of the fetus as a breeched baby will almost guarantee a caesarean delivery and a few others factors which should be discussed with your physician.

I had a c-section with my son and a vaginal birth with my daughter five years later. I didn't think that was possible, but my doctor said there would be no problem. One doctor I went to said he wouldn't try it and wanted to schedule a C-section. When his partner saw me the next week, he totally disagreed and made me feel comfortable with it. He told me that if he felt things weren't progressing and wasn't totally confident then he'd tell me it's time for a C-section. I just didn't want to go through 20 hours of labor and then have to get a C-section again. He promised that he wouldn't allow that. It was so nice to feel good after the birth. I was so thankful. Especially since I had a little one to take care of at home. Find a doctor you trust. Good Luck!

I had a successful VBAC after 15 hours in labor. I used a midwife for my second pregnancy and I believe it made all the difference. I didn't use any drugs and I did a lot of walking during the labor, I think it helped bring on the contractions. Good luck, it can be done!

At Kaiser Hospital in San Diego they call it VBAC. Vaginal birth after Cesarean. I had this and it was just fine. My first child was delivered with an emergency c-section and it was rough recuperating. My second was a v-birth and recuperating was so much easier. I had an epidural and it went really well. I think it's good for the baby too, something about squeezing the lungs maybe.

I'm considering this issue myself, had an emergency c-section 8 months ago. I found a lot of good reading on this site:
http://www.childbirth.org/section/VBACindex.html
There's also a nice forum to chat with mums who have done it.
A lot of how successful you are apparently depends on the type of incision they did and whether or not it extended into the active segment or not.

Mine was unsuccessful, they had to go in and take him out via c-section.
I've heard good stories though! Be optimistic, it might happen for you.
Good luck!

My sister did, and said she would never do it again. Six months later she had her tubes "tied and fried" and hasn't been pregnant since...that was almost 18 years ago.
