I have found this to be a very interesting phenomenon. When I was in grade school, most of my papers were typed on a typewriter. (I know, I am dating myself.) I started using a word processor when I entered middle school.
I believe we are becoming the victims of the "Spell Shecker Generation." If you think about it, spelling and grammar are no longer necessary for someone to communicate. Word processors evaluate everything that is typed and give suggestions or corrections for errors. Even in the business world, proper spelling and grammar has become obsolete.
The chat environment has also created a need to find more, and increasingly unique ways of expressing ourselves, albeit through an abbreviated format.
An example: "Lmao cu we b trip-N"
Sometimes I wonder if it is the tendency of humanity to be lazy, or if it is the implied nature of urgency that is created by the hustle and bustle of the western world.
No matter what the cause, grammar is dead, and smiley faces are the new language of the future.
How sad that pride in ones ability to express oneself has been lost on the youngest generations.

^ I have a doppelganger... (I don't know if my grammar is correct or not, but you get the point).
Well, sometimes they want to be fast.
People are just weird, some like typing LiKe ThIs
or completely lowercase or COMPLETELY UPPERCASE. I only type uppercase to emphasize a point. When I can't spell something I say I can't spell it... just so people know that I know I spelled something wrong. Did that make sense?
Some people don't know that they spelled something wrong. They want to answer first and get best answer, they don't want to wait for a spell checker to do its stuff.
People also stay on IM for a long time so they abbreviate everything. Although this helps people type faster, it doesn't help with grammar.

b/c we r lazy & use slang & short terms.
b.t.w.- just b/c people use terms and slang doesnt mean they have bad grammar. i'm taking english 2 honors and i still type and speak fine. im sorry if you think the world should wait when we have things to get done and dont feel like waiting for people to type complete sentences or capitalize our letters.

It's laziness teamed with lack of interest in doing better. Sometimes, I want to make or buy a shirt saying, something along the lines, if you're lacking language skills, shut up, already, you're killing my ears.
And to make matters worse, people who procreate and 'teach' their children poor English, the same poor skills they were "taught."
helllllllllllllllllllp!!!!!!!!

In my opinion, i think that it is not the world that have bad grammar. It is how the people modify the grammar and use them in another way instead of what it is.
