Since you were not formally charged, they would have No reason to contact your place of employment. I do hope you learned a valuable lesson in all of this..

I worked as store security for Macy's a while back and if that store is anything like it, the civil demand is all they want. Pay it and they let you go, but don't go back there. If their security is any good they'll nab you again and charge you for tresspassing. If you elect not to pay they get the cops involved and everyone knows. Shoplifting?, that's sad. If you want to take a chance at getting caught stealing, try stealing a billion dollars at least. 8\

You were lucky not to have been charged because if you are 18 or older you could have been in jail to serve a criminal charge. They do have a right ot tell your job because they are notifying them of your wrongdoing and letting them know that you could do it again in your working place. Not trying to sound mean just be careful.

Nope - your employer may find out if you come up for a promotion soon and they do a background check. You are lucky that you were not charged because it will affect your employment for the rest of your life.

I don't think a misdemeanor is anything that is reported to your place of work. They probably wanted to know if you had a job. Yes it is stupid to shop lift especially when you have a job. Hopefully you will never do that again!

You should lose your job. Whats a civil demand? Does that mean they want money paid to them?

Yup. They are going to tell your job. No, if they want your work to know they would ask where you work.
You ARE very lucky to not have been charged, but you're probably going to lose your job.

They probably wanted to know where you worked in case they sought money damages for what you stole. Perhaps they might garnish your wages. Keep your hands off what doesn't belong to you and you won't have these problems!
